community-funded care
Community closes the gap.
Approximately 80% of Eisenhower Health's revenue comes from Medicare, which reimburses below the actual cost of care. The gap between what Medicare pays and what care costs is closed entirely by philanthropic giving.
This is not supplemental fundraising — this is the operating model. Without donors, the hospital cannot sustain its services, recruit specialists, or invest in community health infrastructure. There is no government backstop. There is no corporate parent.
- The Medicare Gap — Closing the structural deficit between reimbursement and care costs
- Specialist Recruitment — Physicians who choose to practice in the desert
- Mobile Care Unit — Free/low-cost care across all nine valley cities
- Lucy Curci Cancer Center — Community-funded cancer treatment, right here
- Spiritual Care Services — Whole-person care, treating the patient, not just the diagnosis
- Latinos in Philanthropy — Building a bridge to the valley's fastest-growing community
In 1966, a man named Clark Swanson had a heart attack on a golf course. There was no hospital nearby to save him. Bob Hope, Leonard Firestone, and a group of community members looked at a desert valley with no first-rate medical care and decided: we will build it ourselves.
That founding act is repeated every time a donor gives. The community is still building this hospital — fifty years later.
